At the end of 2020, the excavation works for the second tube of Učka Tunnel (5.63 km) were ceremonially inaugurated. Bouygues TP, the main contractor, entrusted us with the implementation of mobile communication within the construction site of the second tube.

The scope of work includes the installation and commissioning of mobile communication equipment at both portal zones (Kvarner and Istria). As the excavation works progress, the equipment will also be installed in the tunnel itself and the cross-passages in the second phase.

The contract also includes terminal equipment, known as Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) terminals. PoC systems are an ideal solution for commercial applications and open up a whole new chapter in point-to-multipoint (P2MP) communication technology. However, in high-security systems, they can only be used as an additional feature, not as the primary system. Due to the connectivity of various geographically separated communication networks into a unified system, PoC systems provide global coverage regardless of the mobile or radio network operator, allowing for lower terminal equipment costs.
